Almost every cruise line sailing the Caribbean can boast of having its very own private island. But only Royal Caribbean can claim its own peninsula, Labadee, an exclusive playground on Haiti’s north coast where the action aboard the world’s two largest cruise liners, Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas, moves from ship to shore. The 26-acre playground comprises seven “neighborhoods”: Columbus Cove has a water park with floating “icebergs”; there’s Adrenaline Beach, with the Dragon’s Tail roller coaster; and the Barefoot Beach Club, where private over-water cabanas await those with a taste for the finer things (and a spare $200 to reserve one for the day). But don’t leave Labadee without ... ...

One of the things I like best about cruising is the utter lack of airplanes involved. It's not that I mind flying, it’s all the hassle before you board. Plus, I'm an unrepentant overpacker, so those baggage fees really add up. Luckily, I live in Florida, so I've long had my pick of ports that are an easy drive away—Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Port Canaveral, even Tampa. It’s a big convenience, and a money-saver as well. Parking fees are a fraction of what you’d pay for an airline ticket, and you can take as many bags as your car will hold. Not to mention that there’s no need to worry about a missed or delayed flight. And not having to add an overnight hotel stay more than makes up for any added travel time....

Here are five cruises debuting now that we're really excited about. First, the Celebrity Reflection is that cruise line's new ship that is departing Miami on seven-night sailings to ports like Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Belly up to the ice-topped Martini Bar. Rates from $699. Second, the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream were previously home-ported at Cape Canaveral, but they’ll begin departures from Miami, offering seven-night and shorter itineraries, respectively. Rates from $450. Third, the ......

Think "Caribbean cruise" and mega liners populating harbors in The Bahamas and St. Martin immediately come to mind. But what if you could take a more intimate cruise, stray miles from the charted course, and be treated to a week aboard an architectural masterpiece with the cuisine and shore excursions to match?...

The new Carnival Breeze spent the summer in the Mediterranean. But the ship is coming to Miami, and its designers have left no doubt about its new destination. Cabins are “Caribbean-ized,” with sun-washed hues and doors with plantation shutters; hammocks, palm trees and “beach” umbrellas embellish the adult-only oasis, the Serenity retreat (welcome respite from the kid-magnet water park); and even the stairwells are adorned with tropical imagery. As part of the CT+L Ultimate Cruise Guide, see the photo gallery we just posted for a photo tour of the Carnival Breeze. Onboard eats are also ... ...

If there's one thing I love as much as a cruise, it's a cruise deal. So imagine the thrill I got when I turned the calendar this week and realized that it's National Cruise Vacation Month. Which means that we're quickly coming up on the cruise industry's big coordinated sales event, National Cruise Vacation Week, which kicks off on Oct. 21. Virtually every cruise line participates in some way, either by offering discounts, upgrades or credits, so if you've been looking for a good excuse to take a cruise, you're welcome. Here's a sampling of the cruise deals that await, plus ......

find short cruises for a weekend getaway

Let’s face it, weekends are too short — just two quick days — which is why I’m always surprised when people ask me which is the best weekend cruise. The simple answer is that there are no weekend cruises. Or, at least, no Saturday-Sunday cruises. Luckily, that doesn't mean you’re out of luck. There are plenty of ways to jaunt down to the Bahamas or over to Cozumel via cruise ship, you’ll just need to expand your definition of the weekend. ...

Just when I was starting to get a serious case of the can’t-wait-to-cruise blues, along comes an envelope in my mailbox from Disney Cruise Line, informing me of all the Halloween fun that awaits on our sailing next month. Yes, please. I’ll confess, I was a little surprised. Whenever I hear about holiday cruises, I immediately think of the year-end trifecta of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s — it never occurred to me that Halloween would be best spent on a cruise ship. Little did I know. The Fantasy will be living up to its name on our sailing: The ship will be all decked out (hauntingly beautiful, I’m sure), the characters will be in costume, and there’s even a contest for guests who join them in dressing up. The more I think about it, the more I realize that ......
