Bermuda...Caribbean Island?

I had the pleasure of visiting Bermuda for the first time last month for an upcoming story in the magazine. And after five days of ferry rides, perfumery tours, chic resorts, afternoon tea, numerous scooter and Bermuda shorts-sightings and many Dark and Stormys, I can say that I absolutely loved it. The island is beautiful, the beaches are enchanting, and the people are friendly and unfailingly polite.

But is it Caribbean? And by “Caribbean” I don’t mean its location (which is in the North Atlantic); I mean its vibe. I found that in some ways Bermuda feels very Caribbean, but in others…maybe not so much.

If you’ve been to Bermuda, I’m interested to hear what you think. Does Bermuda feel Caribbean to you? If so, tell us how. And if not, why not? And how do you think it should be categorized?

So glad you got to enjoy the

So glad you got to enjoy the island!

As for your question, Bermuda is not quite the "no shoes, no shirt, no problem" Caribbean—that is, you won't find any laid back beach bars or colorful rasta characters here—but it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Where else can you find miles upon miles of pink sand beaches? Or the majestic rock formations that pop up all along the coast? I'd argue not many.

Indeed it's a special place, my Bermuda.

Care to read more about my life on the island? Then be sure to read Bermuda Shorts at http://davidlahuta.blogspot.com. For island news and tropical updates it's your daily dish from paradise. Oh yeah, and next time you need a story from Bermuda, you know who to call.

Cheers,
