What’s not to love about Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach? Sugar-white sand, turquoise waters, an abundance of hotels, bars and restaurants just steps away, and a lively, in-the-thick-of-it vibe. But sometimes even the beach-iest bum wants to take it down a notch and chill out on a patch of sand that’s a bit more laidback and local.

When I’m in the mood for some solitary sand-and-sea time on Grand Cayman, I head for Smith Cove (also known as Smith Barcadere). On South Sound, just a few minutes’ drive outside George Town, this chill-out spot has tiny twin beaches, warm silky waters, great snorkeling and absolutely no “scene.” Beyond restrooms and a few picnic tables there are no amenities, so bring your own beach chair, umbrella and cooler of drinks. For company you can count on a few local families, a handful of in-the-know expats, and a flock of local chickens that peck their way through the tangle of foliage that shelters the strand from the main road. Smith’s Cove is a beach, pure and simple – just the way I like it.

What are your favorite secret Caribbean beaches?

Finding the less traveled

Finding the less traveled beaches is easier said than done... I really enjoyed Smith's Cove that you mention above but it was fairly well populated the day i went. the pigeon point beach in St Lucia is one that I was able to enjoy with almost noone around- nice soft light brown sand and clear calm blue water--- the only other people there were a mother and child. Another "secret" beach Id like to commend is cotton bay in Tobago-- went on an excursion there with a catamaran full of not so boisterous people. A very pretty place for the backdrop of a small cliff and several rock formations with gorgeous calm water; in fact I enjoyed it more than Englishman's Bay that is often touted to be among the top 10 in the caribbean

On St. Croix on the Western

On St. Croix on the Western tip there is a place where the ocean currents converge at Sandy Point beach. It is a park and turtle reserve that is a relatively unused treasure. It's quite a walk from the parking lot to the end, but worth it. On one side is crystal clear water for snorkeling and swimming. On the other, large waves crash against the shore - beautiful. And, if you time it right - little baby sea turtles begin their journeys into the big blue from here.

If I told you, then they

If I told you, then they wouldn't be a secret anymore....
