Meet Jamaica's Rising Tennis Star: Dustin Brown
Jamaican Olympic track star Usain Bolt may get all the press but a new sports star has just stepped into the spotlight. Tennis player Dustin Brown made history at the U.S. Open in early September, becoming the first Jamaican to win at the prestigious tournament in more than 40 years. The 25-year-old had advanced in the rankings from the mid-400s to 123 before defeating his 92nd-ranked opponent Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.
The Miami Herald reports that Brown still has no full-time coach or training facility, and that when he’s on the European circuit he lives out of VW camper van equipped with three beds, a bathroom and a racquet-stringing machine. But something tells us it won’t be long before the dreadlocked dynamo trades up to a fancier ride.
