Papaya Playa - A Pop-Up Resort In Tulum
The "pop-up" business model is usually only seen with retail or restaurants - a temporary location will be set up, only to be taken down a short time later, and perhaps set up elsewhere. That concept has now been brought to hotels with the emergence of the Papaya Playa Project in Tulum, Riviera Maya - a collection of 99 beach cabanas with luxury touches, that straddle the line between hipness and eco-friendliness.
CoolHunting gives us the scoop on the activities and amenities:
"Copenhagen's 42ºRaw is providing on-the-go sustenance to visitors while KaterHolzig—offspring of Berlin's Bar 25—handles the main dining experience. To complete the 1960s-commune vibe, Mamapapacola Company has prepared an event series based around Mayan full moon rituals. While we'd like to avoid thinking of Mayans in the lead-up to 2012, this sprinkling of local flavor is undoubtedly entertaining."
The Tulum pop-up hotel will operate for only five months, from December 6th, 2011 to May 5th, 2012. For bookings, see the Papaya Playa site.
