Scenes From Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Overview

Collapse

Just 8 miles offshore from Cancun, Isla Mujeres is a popular day trip for partiers looking for a bit of rest and relaxation. But this fish-shaped island is a worthy vacation destination in its own right, particularly for anglers and divers, or for those seeking a true do-nothing escape. Most visitors get around on golf carts (if they move around at all). Mostly, it's a walk to the beach or a walk to the boat slip.

BEACHES AND DIVING

Tranquil Playa Norte is the most popular beach and El Garrafon Reef (a national underwater park) attracts snorkelers and divers, you'll need more time.

  • Language: Spanish (English is widely spoken)
  • Currency: Mexican Peso (U.S. dollars are widely accepted)

  • Documents: All visitors to Mexico are issued a tourist card upon entering the country. Guard your tourist card carefully, as it can be very hard to replace and needs to be presented upon departure.
