MAKES 1 COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS

3 oz. dark rum
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. fresh orange juice
½ oz. fresh lime juice
2 dashes bitters
Orange slice for garnish
Maraschino cherry for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake well, and strain into a collins glass with fresh ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

MAKES 1 DRINK

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. rhum agricole
The juice of ½ lime
1 tsp. cane syrup

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all ingredients in a rocks glass or small tumbler over ice. Stir. Garnish with a slice of lime.

INGREDIENTS

6 mint leaves
1 ¼ oz. Zacapa Guatemalan rum
½ oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
½ oz. St. Germain
Raspberry soda to top

MAKES 1 DRINK

INGREDIENTS

¾ oz. light rum
¾ oz. aged rum
½ oz. Malibu or other coconut rum
¾ Myer's dark rum
2 oz. pineapple juice
2 oz. fresh orange juice
1-2 tsp. grenadine
Few dashes Angostura Bitters
Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Orange slice, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all ingredients (excluding the garnishes) in a shaker over ice. Shake well and strain into a goblet or hurrican glass. Garnish with the cherry and orange slice, or if you have on hand, a pineapple leaf.

MAKES 1 COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS

2.5 oz. Tommy Bahama Golden Sun rum
1 oz. St-Germain elderflower liqueur
0.75 oz. agave nectar
0.25 oz. yuzu juice
Lime wedge for garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake, then strain into a chilled couple or martini glass or with a powdered-sugar rim. Garnish with a lime wedge if you wish.

No one knows this better than the folks over at island-lifestyle favorite Tommy Bahama, as evidenced by their recent announcement of the first-ever Tommy Bahama Rumologist, Jack Terry. After three months of competition, thousands of votes and a few heinous hangovers, this Key West, Florida transplant and longtime bartender at Duval Street’s Bagatelle took the title and a $50,000 grand prize for his extensive rum knowledge, winning cocktail and endearing personality.

Tortuga Gorda Cocktail

SERVES 1

1 oz. Cruzan 151 rum
1 oz. pineapple rum
1 oz. blue Curaçao
1 oz. melon liqueur
1 oz. each of pineapple juice
   and orange juice
1 oz. Sprite

1. Mix in a big glass with ice. Stir, then garnish with an orange and a cherry.

SERVES 1

– 1 1/2 oz. Captain Morgan spiced rum
– 3/4 oz. Orange Curacao
– 1 1/2 oz. fresh lemon sour

Fill a mixing glass with ice and add the rum, Curacao and lemon sour. Shake until well-blended. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass (optionally, frosted with sugar and cinnamon, as below) and garnish with an orange spiral. To cut a fresh orange spiral, use a citrus zester, also known as a channel knife.

Tropical Drink Recipe: RumRunner

SERVES 1

– 2 tsp. hot water
– 2 tsp. brown sugar
– freshly squeezed juice of half a lime
– 2 oz. Lemon Hart Demerara Rum
– 4 dashes angostura bitters
– lime wedge for garnish

In a rocks glass, add the water and sugar, then stir until the sugar is almost completely dissolved. Fill the glass with ice; add the lime juice, rum, and bitters. Cover the glass with a cocktail shaker and shake a few times. Garnish with the lime wedge, and enjoy!
