A quiet island only five miles long by a half-mile wide, Isla Mujeres offers a great deal in the way of activity. Visitors can relax on beaches of soft white sand and participate in water sports of all kinds. The snorkeling is superb; simply stroll in from the shore to discover teems of colorful fish. Divers are enraptured by the underwater paradise they find at El Garrafón National Park, as well as at Sleeping Sharks Cave and the reefs of Farito, Islaché and Manchones.

Traveling around the island is part of the fun. Rent a moped, a golf cart or a bicycle to scoot from spot to spot, visiting different beaches, lunching at beach shacks or touring beautiful hotels.

On the island's south end, the cliff on Punta Sur has the ruins of an ancient Maya temple. The new El Meco tourist development make visits easy.
