Isla Mujeres

Overview

Isla Mujeres, across the bay from Cancun but a world apart, remains one of the truly unspoiled spots in Mexico, offering visitors the tranquility and beauty of white sand beaches ringed by palm trees and bordering on crystal clear turquoise water, perfect for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.

The water on the north and west sides is shallow and calm, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.  On the east coast there are rocky shores, great for tide-pooling and watching the waves of the open Caribbean.  At the south end is Garrafon Park, with a reef accessible from land featuring schools of colorful fish which can be seen by snorkeling, kayaking or boogie boarding.  A temple devoted to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of women, once stood on the shore where the sun first rises on Mexico.

In the evenings, enjoy the freshest seafood anywhere with your toes in the sand, then join the people of the island in the zocalo where all gather to discuss the events of the day, watch a basketball game or participate in some of the many fiestas celebrated on the island. 

There is no other place in Mexico like Isla Mujeres. You will want to return again and again.
