Ask travelers or locals where you'll find the best jerk chicken in Jamaica, and the answer is frequently the same: Scotchies, a laid-back, open-air restaurant specializing in jerk chicken and pork, as well as a variety of other locally-inspired side dishes like plantains. The chicken is grilled over local pimento wood and sweetwood, which impart the traditional Jamaican jerk flavor that is difficult to replicate outside of Jamaica. Scotchies has three locations on the island, in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, making it an easy stop for most travelers to Jamaica.
On a recent food-blogger tour, Mijune of Follow Me Foodie had the opportunity to try all of Scotchies' offerings, including the jerk chicken and pork, roast fish filet, festivals, plantains, roasted breadfruit, rice and peas and the house-made Scotchies Scotch Bonnet Pepper Hot Sauce. As soon as I stepped foot onto their parking lot I could smell the smoke and spices of the Jerk chicken grilling already! If this didn’t spark your hunger, then you must be vegetarian... I was totally feeling the ambiance and I can officially say that authentic Jerk chicken will almost be impossible to get outside of Jamaica because authentic Jerk chicken is prepared like this!
